The hidden benefits of avocado seeds will surprise you. The seed of the avocado is one of the most nutritious food on the planet. In a latest study, scientists report that avocado seed packed with a previously unrecognized plethora of chemical compounds. These compounds treat a host of unknown diseases, also enhances the attraction of cosmetics, perfumes and other consumer goods.
Researchers say, most people consider avocado seed husks as the waste of wastes, but the medicinal compounds within them could eventually treat cancer, heart disease and other conditions. The results suggest that the seed husks are a potential source of chemicals used in plastics and other industrial products.
Avocado annual growth
Nearly, 5 million tons of avocados produced worldwide annually. Americans use almost 1.9 billion pounds each year. In most cases, the “meat,” or flesh, is eaten and the seed is tossed in the trash. Some edible oil manufacturers extract avocado oil from the seeds, but they remove the husk surrounding the seed and discard it before processing. Also, researchers find out what manufacturers really throwing away when discard seed husks.
Research on about 300 dried avocado seed husks into 21 ounces of powder. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, they found 116 compounds in the oil and 16 in the wax. Many of these compounds do not appear in the seeds themselves.
Among the constituents in the oil behenyl alcohol, an important ingredient used in anti-viral medications. Heptacosane, which inhibits the growth of tumor cells, and dodecanoic acid, increases high density lipoprotein and reduced the risk of atherosclerosis.
In the wax, the researchers detected benzyl butyl phthalate, a plasticizer used to promote flexibility in numerous synthetic products from shower curtains to medical devices. Bis (2-butoxyethyl) phthalate, used in cosmetics, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), a food additive.
In further studies, researchers modify several of these natural compounds, use to create better medications with fewer side-effects.
