Apple to Break Up with Intel Soon

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is all set to replace the Intel processors from is Mac computers with its own in-house built chips. But the replacement will start by sometime around 2020. Notably, both the companies have been in partnership for more than a decade now. Their partnership began when Apple decided to use Intel CPUs in its 2006 MacBook Pro and iMac.

Then why this breakup is coming up their way? It is simply because Intel has gone lazy bones and doesn’t seem to be improving its chips much! On the other hand, Apple has been improving a whole lot throughout the time. On closely examining we find that iPhone systems-on-chips are performing far better and smarter than Intel’s Core line based laptop-class silicon. Also, if the Apple’s future plans are to be speculated, their products will work better only with its own chip designs.

It is basically the future plans of Apple to constantly improve and update its products with regular research and development that is making it break up with its partner. But still, there are certainly other factors that make the company’s decision inevitable.

The first and foremost reason is the stagnation surrounding Intel. Wherever the company goes, it has the same age-old processors with a slight bit of improvements made. Any major tech exhibition you attend and you’ll find it doesn’t really have anything new, unique, or intriguing to offer.

While Apple is almost always ready for an upcoming upgrade, Intel seems to convince people with a product that’s almost half a decade old. It was simple for Intel in the past to convince people as it could then easily rely on its methodology, now it just doesn’t work. For instance, it used to make micro-architectural changes for a year and have the production process shrinkage for the next year. This gave quite a momentum to its upgrading process. However, it doesn’t work anymore with present day’s technological developments working at a super fast pace.

Another important reason behind the break-up of the two leading tech companies is Apple’s working scheme which focuses on integrating everything. Apple aims at integrating everything starting from the components on a logic board to the whole network of its own devices. If you are an Apple product user, you already know how its Macs, iPhones, AirPods, and HomePods are based on the technology of integration as they could all be handled through a centralized control. For such a system, the company surely needs to develop its own chip and so; it doesn’t even want to depend on Qualcomm. Recently, it has come up with several in-house products to make its devices work better in unification. For instance, almost a year back it created its own graphics processors and stopped depending on Imagination Technologies since then. Again, recently it came up with its own Face ID system and so was successful in acquiring the creator of Touch ID system. Reports also suggest that it is now busy developing its own MicroLED screens to be introduced in their Apple Watch soon.

Next, with users depending more on their portable devices and using their phones and tablets for work instead of mere entertainment, more futuristic technology is to take over all that is stagnating or is not updating itself with time. Yes, people are literally ‘phoning it in’ and sadly enough, Intel isn’t really ready for it yet. Hope it works towards it soon or it will be left far behind the tech world working at almost a supersonic speed!

The current trend of developing faster and doing it all before anyone else has done it is the major reason for leaving out anything and anyone that appears stagnating. And it is not just that Apple is ditching Intel, several other tech-majors are leaping forward faster than ever. Google too is busy working on its own custom chip designs, Microsoft and Qualcomm are also in the news for working on Windows on an ARM. Perhaps, these companies are next on the line to ditch Intel and to create alternatives to currently available laptops powered by Intel’s Processors.
