Psychopath AI

MIT researchers prepared an AI, named “Norman” to end up a psychopath by just exposing it to shocking Reddit images of frightful deaths and violence. The AI named Norman after after the character in the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Psycho.” The psychopath AI fed only a continuous stream of violent images from various harmful sub-reddits before tested with Rorschach inkblot tests.

Scientists specifically trained the AI to perform image captioning, a deep learning method for AI to kill images and produce corresponding descriptions in writing. Their research should prove the method of input used to teach a machine learning, an algorithm can greatly impact its later behavior.

The scientists contended that when algorithms accused unfairly, such as the cases of Facebook news or Google Photos. The culprit is often not the algorithm itself, but the biased data that was fed into it.

In Rorschach inkblot tests, Norman said an image showed a man being “shot dead,” while a standard AI looked at the same image and saw “a close up of a vase with flowers. In another, Norman said he saw a man shot in front of his wife, while the AI not presented to sordid, disturbing images saw a person holding an umbrella noticeable all around.

While, robotics experts are hopeful that one day artificial intelligence will be able to understand a human’s emotions simply by viewing a person’s facial expression. McAfee and the other tech specialists talking about algorithmic bias and said AI can remain effective and fair as long as the information is exact.
