New Firefox Test Pilot extension
Open source browser Firefox brings a new browser extension ‘Advance’ suggests the relevant information based on your current browsing and recent browsing history. The development of this new extension is under the part of Firefox Test Pilot program.
Last year, Mozilla introduces the Test Pilot Program, is an add-on option to introduce new experimental features for its browser. The aim of the program is taking feedback and suggestion from users when launching a new feature is available for testing. Since the launch of this program, Firefox has brought many interesting projects, such as Lockbox and Notes on mobile devices.
While, the new Firefox Test Pilot extension is an AI based service and built by Laserlike, a startup works on machine-learning content recommendation technology.
Real time recommendations
In the the new Firefox Test Pilot extension Advance, Mozilla adds two sections ‘Read Next’ and ‘For You’ on the sidebar. From Read Next, the extension Advance analyzes your current browsing and provide recommended pages and For You section share recommendations based on your recent browsing history after installing the extension.
Mozilla stated, “With Advance experiment, we hope to bring the concept of the recommended system. With this concept, people no longer need to go backward in search to move forward to discover new relevant content”.
With the new Firefox Test Pilot extension, Mozilla users can identify unrelated recommendations in the Read Next and For You sections and also give access to user comments like Not interesting, off-topic/spam, and block sites.
Users who are testing the New Firefox Test Pilot extension also have permissions to see Laserlike browser history. Moreover, an option to request deletion of any previously stored information is available to preserve user privacy.
Mozilla says, “the main aim of this extension is to provide recommendations to help users having a more active role in exploring the Web”.
