As a matter of fact, people are staying at home and thus incorporating a great chance for app developers to earn and keep up their companies with this economic crisis. But the overall results states that the technology industry has suffered a massive dent. This is possibly due to less production of smartphones and other similar devices. There are two aspects to be taken into account- usage& downloads. As people are having an enormous amount of ideal time, the usage of certain apps has risen. The pertained sectors are- to gaming fitness, editing, social media, etc. whereas ridesharing and food delivery are amongst the ones who are startled by their downflow.

The first-quarter of 2020 became record-breaking in the history of the Apple App Store, with consumers spending $23.4 billion. Since the start of the pandemic, App Store earned $15 billion, while Google Play reported $8.4 billion in revenue. Reports shout that on Google Play, most downloads came from India and Brazil. While Tibet and the US thrust the quarter of download growth in the App Store and became the most considerable market of the usage and downloads. Locked indoors, people are using social apps to combat isolation and loneliness. Social Media apps dominate the largest app marketplaces. As of March, Tik Tok is the most downloaded non-gaming app worldwide, with 115.2 million installs.

But the spamming of Tik-Tok in the recent past has dropped its rating to 2.3 and eventually pulled down the usage and downloads to a massive level.

ZOOMGoogle Meet, and WEBOS have also secured the top positions in the industry. The social network becomes also becomes inundated with fake news and ill-content.

So going through the top news of Respective countries using the contact-tracing apps : –

CNIL, The country’s data protection association, evaluated its app StopCovid, which was built with a moto of contact-tracing and found that there were no significant concerns with the legal framework & technical implementation of the app. The country is restricting the use of the Tech Giants API like that of Google and Apple. It instead uses a centralized contact-tracing etiquette called ROBERT. This is the reason for the major controversies regarding the app. This relies on a central server to assign a permanent ID and generate ephemeral IDs attached to this permanent ID. CNIL says the app will eventually be open-sourced and it will create a bug bounty. On Wednesday, the app passed its first vote in favor of its release.

Similar to that of FRANCE, China’s health-tracking QR codes which are installed in the alternative of Whatsapp .i.e. WeChat and Alipay smartphone apps, are raising major controversies in the industry. To walk around freely, people must have a green rating. They also now have to present their health QR codes to gain entry into restaurants, parks, and other venues. These efforts have been met with little objection. The color-coded batch is earned by people depending upon their lifestyle. The aspects include – the calories burned, workout time, smoking and drinking measures, and also the eating and drinking measures. Thus the Chinese government is interfering more in their citizens’ privacy than required thus raising the controversies and allegations against the app and color codes on twitter handles. This was initially proposed in the city of Hangzhou.

The case of contact-tracing apps has been controversial in countries like France and China. But there are countries like Australia who have reported that only one person has used the data of their contact-tracing app Covidsafe. The role of the country’s Covidsafe app in the recovery appears to be minimal. A survey even found that Australians were more supportive of using telecommunications metadata to track close contacts (79%) than they were of downloading an app (69.8%). In a second survey, their support for the app dropped to 64%. The app has been maligned by the public debate over it and technical issues.
