Apple’s iOS 14.5 update addresses the Face ID mask issue


People are facing some difficulty with apple’s latest iPhones. They are not able to unlock the phone with the face ID because nowadays everyone is wearing masks. So, to unlock the device the user needs to continuously enter the passcode. To solve this issue Apple is coming with the new iOS 14.5 update.

Apple’s new iOS 14.5 update will make the process of unlocking your phone much easier, as long as you have an Apple smartwatch. This new feature allows iPhone owners to use Face ID while wearing a face mask. As per reports, this new update is now in the developer beta stage. It will rolled out officially soon.

As reported by Pocket-lint, the new iOS 14.5 update will use the apple watch on your wrist to quickly verify and unlock your device. This feature is already available on the Mac, but now it is coming to the iPhone as well.

Soon, your iPhone Face ID will able to get unlocked even if you are wearing face masks. That is possible only when you have an Apple watch, which is paired with the phone and unlocked. The major problem with Face ID is that they don’t work with face masks that cover your mouth and nose. It is mainly for newer iPhone devices that rely on Face ID like iPhone X, XS, XR, 11, 12.

Soon it will change with Apple’s new iOS 14.5 update. iOS 14 was first announced back in September.

Apple informs about the functionality of the new feature

Apple informs that Face ID works similarly as you would expect with the new software. Your Apple Watch will provide you with some feedback that lets you know whether your iPhone has been unlocked or not. It is exactly, same as you have seen in using the Apple Watch to unlock your Mac which has been in use for some time. At the same time, the Apple watch should be in close proximity to your iPhone.

Similarly, the same process can used for your Apple pay. So you can continue with your payments as smoothly as you can. Rather than wasting your time standing at the counter to remove your mask. Whereas, for App Store, iTunes Store, and Safari password autofill purchases and access you will still have to go with entering a passcode.

And for additional security purposes, you’ll still asked to put in your passcode every few hours even when the unlock with Apple watch enabled. If the Apple Watch unlocked, then this feature also doesn’t work.

Apple’s new iOS 14.5 update is now in the beta developer stage

To use this feature you have to make it manually there is no automatic option for this. You will need to activate it by going to settings, then tapping on Face ID and Passcode on your iPhone. As usual Touch ID iPhones will still get unlocked in the same way that they always do.

However, this feature has not been so reliable for some Mac owners, So it may take some time for testing to see whether Apple has made it seamless. On the iPhone, where people often unlock the device throughout the day. Android also has provided similar benefits for some time now with the “Smart Lock” setting.

Along with this Apple rumored to make some future plans to cope with this Face ID issue. For example, Apple is planning to introduce an in-screen fingerprint reader along with Face ID for the iPhone 13. Even the latest iPad Air also comes with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor within the power button. So, in the future there will be many other options and ways along with the new iOS 14.5 update, to solve this Face ID issue.

Along with this new feature, Apple’s new iOS 14.5 update brings several other improvements. Including updates for Siri, support for latest-gen Xbox and Playstation game controllers, and also App tracking controls. App tracking controls will give you the power to stop developers from tracking you in apps.

Regarding this App, tracking controls some companies are not happy about like Facebook. Some other updates include bringing 5G dual-sim functionality to users globally.

Additionally, In iPadOS 14.5, there are also some improvements to handwriting recognition as well as Scribble including support for Portuguese, French, and Spanish.

Dark Sky app enhancements

And some updates include the Dark Sky app that Apple bought last year.
Dark Sky’s outstanding features include real-time weather forecasts based on location, also with hourly weather forecasts for the next day and week too. It has some real-time alerts for rain and severe weather, a Today widget along a Time machine feature.

With the new iOS 14.5 update, a minute-by-minute forecast coming to this weather app for the UK region, which was available in the US previously. Some elements of Dark Sky might have been incorporated into Apple’s weather app, which pulls the data from the Weather channel.
