The Older Apple update does not apply to the two Apple boxes that are currently being sold are Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. These two models function on the tvOS which has a built-in App Store. And they will continue to support Youtube Apps. For older Apple TVs that impacted by this new update. They require Airplay for streaming Youtube video playback.

Presently when users are trying to stream Youtube videos on this Older Apple TV, a message is currently being displayed. That says “From march, Youtube will no longer be available on Apple TV third generation. Still, you will be able to stream Youtube on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, iPhone, or iPad. By using Airplay, you can Watch youtube from your iOS device directly to Older Apple TV as well as later generation Apple TV.

Older Apple TV’s relied on special support between Apple and video providers for app support.   • If you see an AirPlay button

Whenever you open the app or a video in the app, go to “Use Airplay”. For example in the YouTube app for iPod, you will observe the Airplay button at the bottom right corner of the video.

  • If you don’t see an AirPlay button

If there is no Airplay button then select the app’s option for casting, sharing, or playing content on a different device. After that tap the AirPlay option. For example: In the YouTube app for iPhone, select the cast button at the top of the screen. Then select “AirPlay & Bluetooth devices.”  Then in photos, tap the share button, then scroll down and tap Airplay.

  • For either type of app, select the device you want to use Airplay with.
  • Now, your TV will display a code. Then enter that code in the box on your phone’s screen and select OK.
  • Now you will see that you’re casting your video to your TV via Airplay.
  • To cancel casting, go to the Airplay window in the same way you opened it above. Then tap “iPhone” on the list of devices. This will return your feed from the TV back to your iPhone. In photos, you need to tap the Airplay icon which is present at the top right corner, and then select “My Device”

Last year, HBO also pulled its HBO Now app from the second and third-generation Apple TV boxes. HBO Now is still present on the newer Apple TV models, along with other platforms like Amazon Fire TV and Roku.
