Viva can be integrated into Microsoft Teams and functions. which is quite different from the intranet of old by collecting important elements of a business into a central location. The company also worked towards adding new features to its Teams platform during this crisis and witnessed a rise in the user’s figures continuously.
Microsoft Viva has four specific modules. Those are connections, Insights, Learnings, Topics.
Microsoft Viva connections consist of internal communications or resources such as benefits and company policies. It works as a portal you’d visit if you recently joined any organization but never even met any of your colleagues due to this Covid crisis. “Microsoft Viva works as a gateway to your digital workplace,” says Spataro.
Viva connection, designed on top of Microsoft’s Sharepoint technology. It also includes things like organization news, town halls, employee resource groups, and communities. Simply it is a dashboard for connecting with colleagues remotely.
Microsoft Viva Insights
It seems like the next step in Microsoft’s controversial productivity score feature. Recently Microsoft faced many criticisms regarding allowing managers to drill down into data of individual employees through metadata. The metadata gets collected with its software and services. Because of this, the company was forced to make some changes to its productivity score feature.
Viva Insights also made on those similar privacy-focused insights for managers and employees. Microsoft says that Viva insights also consist of data for managers and leaders so they can monitor work patterns and trends, but privacy will remain protected.
Spataro further clarifies by stating that “This can mean that personal insights will be visible only for the employee. Whereas insights for managers and leaders are allocated and re-identified by default to protect individual employee privacy.
Microsoft Viva’s third module is Learning and as the name implies that it’s about employee learning and development. You can use Learnings where employers will conduct courses, and training materials.Along with other content for employers’ growth. It will add content from Microsoft Learn LinkedIn Learning, and the organization’s own content material. Along with the training material from the third party providers.
It is the last module of Viva. Spataro says that Viva Topics are like the Wikipedia of the organization. It uses AI that helps in organizing the content and automatically surfaces topic cards with videos, documents, and related people. For generating Topic cards Microsoft Viva uses apps like Office, Teams, and SharePoint.
However, these Topics will be available now for Microsoft 365 customers, also a public preview of Viva insights will start today. As the Microsoft Viva partly released today. Microsoft is also launching a new private preview of Viva learnings. Also plans to announce more additions for the Viva features that will be released throughout 2021.
