Huawei has released another teaser of new Huawei Mate X2, through a post on Weibo. The teaser reveals that the Huawei Mate X2 will feature an inside folding design, unlike the original Huawei Mate X’s design. Original Mate X had a large screen that folds in half, as a result, the display will appear on the outside of the device. Whereas its new smartphone Mate X2 looks like it’ll fold the other way.

The previous Huawei Mate XS foldable design has several issues. Like the smartphone’s hinge wasn’t the best which makes the device a bit difficult to use. Addressing those issues Huawei is going to launch another foldable device, The Huawei Mate X2. Huawei also informs that the new phone has cleared several certifications. It will released this month in China. With the teaser, Huawei gave us a sneak peek into what we can expect from this new smartphone.

The teaser reveals that Huawei Mate X2 will indeed feature an inside folding design. Rumores inform that Huawei chooses this inside foldable design to eliminate the creases from the display.

Along with the inside foldable design, Huawei Mate X2 comes with a circle just behind the device. However, there is no clear information about what it is actually. But by the looks, it looks like the smartphone may come with a laptop mode also.

Laptop Mode means one part of the screen will work as the display and the other part will work as the keyboard. It also seems like the smartphone will feature a stylus as well. Alternatively, This further informs the Laptop Mode, which makes the display to be aligned at a specific angle.

By far we have very few details regarding the Huawei Mate X2. Huawei previously informed that the device will feature the 5nm Kirin 9000 soC. Along with that, the TENAA certifications revealed that the new smartphone will come with an 8.01-inch main display with a resolution of 2480×2200. Also with an external display of 6.45 inches with 2700×1160 resolution. This Mate X2 smartphone will embed a 50+16+12+8 MP quad-camera configuration at the back.

The teaser, making reference to a new design for the Mate X2. Also, its image hints show the phone from the side open at an angle. With a glow from the inside of the hinge. The teaser image also includes information regarding the timing of the event. Which will take place at 8 PM china time (7 AM ET) on February 22nd. 

Moreover, The Weibo post includes that the inside foldable design is not the biggest highlight of Huawei smartphone Mate X2. But further details about features are not mentioned, it seems like Huawei is planning to launch something big which will be revolutionary.

Huawei Mate X2 Expected Specifications

Huawei Mate X2 will be based on Android 10. The Mate X2 seems to be a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that will support Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards. It rumored to measure 161.80 x 14.80 x 8.20mm (height x width x thickness) and come at a weight of 295.00 grams

Coming to connectivity options Huawei Mate X2 may include Wi-Fi, GPS, USB Type-C, and 3G. Along with 4G that supports Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India. As per rumors, it may include some sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and compass/ magnetometer. Along with a gyroscope, proximity sensor, and in-display fingerprint sensor. The Huawei Mate X2 may also support face unlock. But more details of this smartphone will be revealed with the launch that will happen as early as next week.

The Huawei Mate X comes with an 8-inch wraparound OLED display. It is a folded thickness of a mere 11mm. Along with a 4500 mAh battery and Kirin 980 processor.

 One of the sides of this smartphone is owned for a thicker grip section which houses the three cameras. Along with a flash and a push-button latch that keeps the folded tablet securely in a closed position. This way of design helps in keeping the thickness of the main chassis down to an impressively thin 5.4mm. Even when folded it measures just 11mm in thickness. 

Huawei is proudly branded its hinge as a Falcon Wing design. It’s consumer group chief Richard Yu said that ” for this particular design our engineers have been working nearly three years and the design has more than 100 components”

Just after one year of its debut of the Mate X foldable smartphone, Huawei launched the Mate XS. Although the new smartphone looks very familiar to Mate X. Huawei informs that the new smartphone got a more durable display and features a redesigned hinge. It also had features like a faster processor and Kirin 990 same as Huawei Mate X2.

And Huawei informs that it used “Quad-Layer” construction for the screen for the Mate XS, and it is more robust. Up top both are two layers of polyimide film, both were stuck together using a clear adhesive. Below it has the OLED flexible display. Then there’s a softer polymer as a final layer to connect it to the main body of the device. 

Huawei claims that it has improved the design of the hinge. Says now it will feel much more smooth and more durable compared to the original Mate X. Apart from the foldable-specific elements of the device. There are other minor performance upgrades like the device’s “S” suffix. Also, its processor has upgraded from a Kirin 980 to a Kirin 990. This means it has an integrated 5G modem rather than a separate component. Huawei also informs that it’s redesigned smartphones cooling system to allow it to bridge the folding portion of the device.
