This Revamped Google TV app’s universal remote could easily replace the outdated Android TV Remote Control App. Initially, this feature was found in the code for version 4.25 of the Android app. Where it reveals an unfinished built-in remote interface around a large D-pad. Also, it has the option to pair the app with an Android TV with the help of a 4-digit PIN.
Technically, Google already has an Android TV app for both iOS and Android. Where it offers similar functionality, but both of them are outdated and haven’t received any updates in years. With the Revamped Google TV app update, Google may or may not continue both of these TV apps.

Based on the XDA Developers attached screenshots, We can say that the Revamped Google TV app’s remote control looks quite minimal. The screenshot reveals that this remote control features a large square D-pad with a circular button at the center and arrows on four sides. This will help users to easily navigate the Android TV UI on your connected smart TV.
For controlling Google TV, You have to first pair your Android TV to this Revamped Google TV app by choosing it from a list of available TVs. Then the pairing process begins, where you have to enter a 4 digit PIN code that will appear on your TV in the app. After finishing it, then you will be able to use this remote control to control the Android TV.
Reports further inform that, while testing this Revamped Google TV app’s remote feature it didn’t seem to be quite compatible with NVIDIA’s hield TVs. If this new Google TV app remote control goes live then it may replace the Android TV remote control app.
Consequently, this Revamped Google TV app remote control may get additional capabilities. Such as voice input support, a touchpad, and keyboard support till it goes live. As of now, there is no such information about this remote control feature.

Which is quite similar to the Android TV remote control app.
At the moment, these new features don’t work at all. But it well indicates the direction Google seems to be heading with this revamped Google TV app remote control. However, it will be better to see everything under a single Google TV banner.
Similar to Google’s messaging platform, Google isn’t exactly consistent with its digital media ecosystem. Previously Google combined its Google Play newsstand which was once Google Play Magazines and Google Currents into the Google News.

If Google does similar work, then soon Google combines its video-on-demand platforms. And it may brand them into a single “Google TV”.
