Motorola Edge Plus was launched last year. And in December Motorola teased a DeX like desktop feature for select devices. Based on reports, Motorola released a new desktop computer interface called Motorola’s “Ready For” feature. The Ready For feature allows users to connect their smartphones to a larger screen using USB-C to USB-C cable. Also, it can work as a computer or even a set-top box alternative.
This Motorola’s Ready For feature works similar to Samsung’s DeX functionality. With this feature, users can plug in their smartphones to a mouse, display, and keyboard which is quite similar to Samsung’s DeX environment. Once you are connected its UI will appear that looks like a traditional desktop layout including a taskbar with app icons.
Motorola’s Ready For feature is designed for making your work from home process simple and easy. As you know it comes with a very familiar PC-like desktop multi-windows user interface. Which will automatically get launched whenever you connect to a new dock accessory. Motorola promotes this Ready For feature as a multifunctional way of getting more out of your Moto Edge Plus. This includes using your device display as a trackpad.
For Converting your mobile experience into a desktop experience Motorola has been trying this, quite for some time now. Initially, it made similar attempts with Motorola’s own Atrix 4G’s LapDock accessory. Now Motorola Successfully going to launch a Ready For experience to its Edge Plus users on Verizon today.
Here are more details about Motorola’s Ready for feature
Motorola’s new update brings the “Ready For” feature to Motorola Edge Plus devices, which will function similarly to Samsung DeX. Ready For feature allows users to transform their Edge Plus into a desktop PC. However, it won’t be wireless as Samsung’s best Android phone.
To use this Motorola’s “Ready For” feature you need to connect your Edge Plus smartphone to a monitor or TV. Using a USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to HDMI cable. After your connection is set up, The Ready For experience Hub will get automatically launched. You can also use this for playing your favorite Android games on the big screen. In addition to this, you can enjoy video calls using the phone’s 108MP main lens or the 16MP ultra-wide lens cameras. Along with this, you can access all your apps and entertainment at a glance in one place.
If you want a complete desktop experience, then it recommended that you need to pair this Edge Plus smartphone with a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse. Apart from this, you will also get a mirror display option where you can mirror whatever you are doing on your phone to the external display.
With all this, you can take the entertainment experience to the next level when you connect your phone to an external display. This new feature is compatible with most TVs or displays even though you don’t have a costly smart TV. If you are on the go you can bring your full library of content with you, so you don’t have to worry about your passwords to premium subscriptions.
Along with the Ready For feature, Android 11 brings some other useful features
Motorola is rolling out the Android 11 update for its Flagship Motorola Edge Plus smartphones. Android 11 update brings some interesting features along with the Ready For feature. Such as it is rolling out One-time permissions and chat bubbles features along with March 2021 security patch.
One-time permission feature
With the Android 11 update, Motorola brings the Ready For feature and also addresses privacy concerns that include a camera and microphone. Any app that wants to access our location, or use the camera to see what we see or access a microphone to hear what we hear, Motorola provides us with the option of allowing it only One Time.
Simply, it means whenever you open any app that wants access to your location, camera, or mic. You will get an additional dialog box to the normal permission prompt which says that “only this time”. This will help in not only closing the app completely but also restricting it to run in the background. This One-time permission tab again appears next time you want to use the app.
Chat bubbles feature
The Chat bubble feature allows you to prioritize ongoing conversations. As a result, you will get a dedicated conversation category at the top of the notification bar. The best part about this feature is that you can not only add Android messages to the notification bar but also it works with apps like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and other messaging apps. This feature can work with one-on-one chats and group chats. This is also compatible with Motorola’s Ready For feature.
In addition to this, now you can also set the priority of the incoming notification with a long-press. It will allow you to set priority, alerting, and silent options. And if you want to remove a particular conversation from the notification section, you can deselect it by long-pressing the notification and selecting the Gear icon that appears on the right.
With all this in mind, we can say that Motorola’s Ready For feature is not its first attempt at providing a desktop mode experience. As per reports, previously Motorola made similar attempts with the Atrix 4G. But it requires users to dock the device in a laptop shell. However, with today’s technology, much better technologies came into the picture like Samsung DeX and now Motorola’s Ready For feature.
Along with launching Motorola’s Ready For feature, it is offering a Ready For dock. This can hold your device in portrait or landscape orientation. The dock comes with a flexible hinge and integrated fan. It will launching on April 19, the pricing of this dock is not announced yet.
